The Invisalign Dental Procedure: What Is It?

We all want to have that perfect smile – and to achieve it we need to have perfectly aligned teeth. This is why people are obsessed about teeth alignment. There are many methods for aligning teeth, with the most popular being braces. Unfortunately, traditional braces do not look aesthetically pleasing. Having metal wires in your mouth just announces to the world that, yes, you’re trying to have your crooked teeth fixed. It’s also quite uncomfortable.

There’s a new teeth straightening method that is more aesthetically pleasing and is equally effective. Called Invisalign, this involves the use of aligners made from clear plastic. These aligners are custom made to the shape of the patient’s teeth and mouth shape. The aligners form a snug, tight fit over the teeth and this creates pressure on it, which will eventually slowly move to alleviate the pressure – which is the same principle used in traditional braces.

The patient wears one aligner for two weeks, which is enough time for the teeth to move slightly. After two weeks, the patient will then wear another set of aligners that will again apply pressure to the teeth.

The aligners are meant to be worn for 22 hours a day. The only time it is removed is when you brush your teeth or when you’re eating. The aligners are made through an advanced process that automatically makes plaster models of your teeth from the first impression and then each successive aligner gradually straightens your teeth until the end of the process where your teeth are already aligned.

The aligners stay in place through suction so there is absolutely no need for wires or brackets. The aligners are also completely transparent so no one will even notice that you’re wearing the Invisalign aligners. The discreet nature of the aligners makes it a popular choice for many people who want to have their teeth straightened without anyone knowing about it.
